The Little Free Libraries landed in our Otsego community 2 yrs. ago!! The library idea was popularized in Hudson, Wisconsin when Todd Bol mounted a wooden container designed to look like a school house, on a post in his lawn, as a tribute to his mother who was a book lover and school teacher.
Little free libraries are a community movement in the U.S. and worldwide that offers free books to families. The libraries belong to everyone and our community responsibility is to take care of them.
The libraries in Otsego promote literacy and the love of reading. The libraries consist of donated books for toddlers, preschoolers, and for children K-6 grade. It runs on the honor system; you take a book, return the book when finished then take another book. The books can be returned at any Little Free library. The Otsego families, businesses, and churches have been very supportive of the program.
Drop off spots for the your book donations are: Lighthouse Chiropractic Office, 169 in Elk River (next to Barrington Oaks Veterinary Hospital), Denny’s Restaurant, Three Rivers Fitness(across from Holiday Inn) and Otsego Prairie Center.
The libraries are located in the following parks. Prairie Park, Frankfort Park, Ketteridge Park, School Knoll Park, Lily Pond Park, Carricks Waterfront Park, Beaudry Meadows Park, Zimmer Farm Park, Wright County Regional Park. One of the libraries is on a bike path on Page St.
